A Distinctive Approach
YMC is committed not simply to enabling students to acquire the requisite competences, experience, knowledge and understanding to fulfil their vocation, but also to inculcating habits and disciplines capable of sustaining life-long learning. This is accomplished through engagement with four central and interrelated vocational themes that are revisited throughout the course at ever deeper levels, fostering progressive learning through continued engagement:
- Understanding and participating in mission;
- Understanding and growing in faith;
- Understanding and relating to self and others;
- Understanding and preparing for ministry and leadership.
Each of these is embedded within all aspects of the course, from classroom teaching to residentials and placements, encouraging students to engage intellectually, experientially and spiritually as they appropriate a ‘learning outlook’ capable of sustaining fruitful Christian ministry.

All of this takes place within a common life that students and staff share in together when gathered as a community but, equally, when dispersed. It is one that is both constituted by and celebrated at the Eucharist, and sustained by a discipline of daily prayer, supportive companionship and sense of vocation.
